1950's Family Interview:
Interview between newspaper company and the typical wife of a 1950's family.
Interviewer: In your family, who supports you and brings in the money?
Mrs. Watson: In my family, my husband brings in the money. He works as the head of a company.
Interviewer: What class do you consider yourself to be in?
Mrs. Watson: With my family able to afford new items such as the T.V. we are in middle class or upper middle class. Although the TV only has channel 2, 4, and 7, my boys enjoy watching it after school and eating dinner in front of the screen.
Interviewer: Do you have any kids that don't attend school?
Mrs Watson: I have two boys that are both currently are attending school, it is expensive but it is imperative that both of our boys are able to attend school so they can go on to support our family when they are older and a family of their own.
Interviewer: Did you ever attend school?
Mrs. Watson: No, when I was little it was not common for girls to attend school, along with that my parents could not afford the education. I am fine being a stay at home Mom.
Interviewer: Do you find that your friends do not have jobs?
Mrs. Watson: Most of my friends have jobs, they are no longer working, especially now that they have the responsibility of a child on their hands.
Interviewer: How does your husband get to work?
Mrs. Watson: He has a 1955 Chevy that he drives to work. The car has plenty of room for the entire family to ride in when going to different places together.
